Starting A Human Race
Creating Humans
Gen 1:27 (NIV) So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. This meant that humans would have a lot of power. They would have self-awareness. They would be able to have independent thought. They would have a God-given free will. They would need a place where they could exercise all these and many more aspects of their power. So, God created the heavens and the earth for mankind. Then for the first humans He created the Garden of Eden. Providing A Choice
Gen 2:7-9 (NIV) the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground--trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. |
Giving A Choice
Gen 2:16-17 (NIV) And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.” It doesn’t do any good to have a God-given free will if there isn’t anything to exercise it on. So, since humans are created in God’s image, God gave Adam and Eve a choice by giving them a command. They have two types of trees to pick from and two choices to make. They could obey the command or not. Making A Choice
Gen 3:6 (NIV) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. This set the stage for the world you are living in today. Adam and Eve sinned and passed a sinful nature down to you. So, what did we all do? Isa 53:6 (NIV) We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
