Join Him in asking these questions as you go over each life’s pursuit. Let Jesus use these questions to help you see that the world’s philosophies for obtaining happiness are in error, then He will help you open your heart to the principles of God that He will be presenting to you in these studies.

• When you first looked at this person, thing, opportunity, plan, or goal, what did you think it would do for you?


• What kind of effort did you put into getting or reaching that objective?


• How did you feel all during the process of working toward that objective?


• Once you reached that objective, built that relationship with that person, or obtained that desired object, how did it make you feel?


• How long did the feelings of enjoyment last?


• What other emotions did you start experiencing as time went on?


• What kind of disappointment, dissatisfaction, emptiness, or lack of happiness and fulfillment came to you IN THE END?

Now let Jesus help you take every pursuit, experience, and relationship that has failed or disappointed you and help you use these questions to analyze each one of them. Print up as many “Happiness Pursuit Worksheets” as you and Jesus need so you can analyze each pursuit you used to find happiness. It is very important that you allow Jesus to use these questions to help you see a pattern.

If you don’t allow Jesus to show you this pattern, you will remain stuck in these philosophies and life systems for the rest of your life. As long as you continue to believe they will work for you, SOME DAY, you will keep trying these METHODS over and over again.

It is important for you to allow Jesus to show you what you believed. He needs to help you feel what you felt when you first started your pursuit. Let Him help you feel the hope and excitement as you came up with an idea that looked like it was going to make you happy.

It is vital for you to let Jesus show you how much hope and expectation you had in the beginnings of the pursuit. It is also vital that He help you see how much TEMPORARY pleasure you obtained from reaching your goal. Then it is necessary for you to allow Him to help you evaluate the final end result as you experienced this person, object, or goal letting you down and failing to CONTINUE to provide you with the happiness you hoped it would.

Let Jesus show you that it is this excitement, this dream, this hope, and this anticipation that keeps you using the same methods without challenging them. You will typically forget the disappointment and get a new dream, goal, or desire. This causes you to use the same methods over and over. You keep thinking it is a problem with the dream, goal, or desire not the method. So, you keep the method and just get a new dream, goal, or desire. If you can see some flaws and inadequacies in your current philosophies, methods, systems, and strategies, then and only then will you come to the place where you will be willing to let Jesus help you consider some other possibilities. When you allow Jesus to bring you to this place, it will make it possible for the spiritual principles provided by God to meet with a heart that is open to His provisions.
